About the Exhibition

The annual International Model Boat Show, widely regarded as one of the UK Leading Marine Modelling Exhibitions, took place from the 7th to 9th November at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre and celebrated its 17th successful year.

Visitors were treated to a packed hall with over 600 fantastic models from the 31 club and society displays. The excellent and varied display of models from early warships to modern power boats and ships was complemented by action on the large boating pool. Twenty three specialist suppliers were also present offering visitors everything they could need for their builds.

The Marine Modelling International Society Shield for Best Society/Club Display, as voted for by the clubs themselves, was awarded for the second year running to Manx Model Boat Club who travelled from the Isle of Man to be at the event. In 2nd place was the Lifeboat Enthusiasts’ Society and in joint 3rd place King Lear Model Boat Club and Burton & District Model Boat Club.

The show this year celebrated the 120th Anniversary of the official opening of the Manchester Ship Canal and the Steam Tug Preservation Society supported this with a detailed displayed. The second celebration was the 190th Anniversary of the RNLI presented in association with the Lifeboat Enthusiasts’ Society.

The Surface Warship Association also led a poignant sailing tribute at the poolside during the 2 minutes silence on Remembrance Day. There were also songs from the 1940 wartime era poolside throughout the day also.

Chris Deith from event organisers Meridienne Exhibitions said “We had another very successful and enjoyable show for all of our visitors and exhibitors. As always we would like to thank the Clubs and Societies who brought along a fabulous selection of models and worked really hard to organise their displays and made the show so successful. Our thanks also to the specialist suppliers who joined us and we are looking forward to the 2015 show already”
